A few tips on playing ten-pin bowling or the game of life

  • If you are brave enough to play with kids (like me on Saturday) follow their lead or they will only show you up!
  • Get excited. It’s all in front of you.
  • It’s more fun if you have something to aim for.
  • Wait your turn while reflecting on how you might improve your game.
  • Get ready…make a choice. The right ‘ball’ and the right attitude helps.
  • Get set…position yourself based on your strengths, not on your weaknesses.
  • Go…to hit something, you have to release something. Give it your best shot.
  • Moon dance, wriggle, punch the air in victory and celebrate when you strike.
  • When you get a spare be thankful for second changes.
  • Tying yourself in knots is a waste of time when the ‘ball’ is no longer under your control.
  • Practice self-control instead (which is no mean feat when there is one pin still standing!)
  • It’s quite possible to be too direct.
  • Precision and restraint are much more powerful than brute force.
  • How you end is really more important than how you begin.
  • Even when you do everything right, you can still get a split.
  • Even when you screw things up, you can still get lucky.
  • The more relaxed you are, the more you will get into the zone.
  • Aim to have fun and have a ball.
