The Author

My name is Aileen but my mother used to call me Ailialana when I was younger. I loved the way it rolled of her tongue with love. There is a lot of happy energy attached to my ‘pet name,’ so I have used it as my author’s name on this blog. It reminds me of a time when I just had to write, when silence spoke to me and eased me into the flow. I got out of the flow when I started collecting ‘ology’s, diplomas and job titles. That was before I landed the most important job ever; Mammy to three, amazing, drop dead gorgeous children, including the little autistic one.

When my second son was diagnosed with Autism, life became a mind numbing, rollercoaster, bumping off all the other titles I had at the time such as lecturer and counsellor, and ended the beginning of my training and mentoring programmes in personal and professional development. The rollercoaster also left my idealistic view of family life somewhat derailed, challenging me to practice what I ‘preached’ and to find a way back into the flow.

One day, about six years ago, in the midst of chaotic madness, I sat down and wrote a story. It ended up being broadcast on the radio and published in a national newspaper. Somehow, it inspired me to pick up the pen again.

Presently, I have managed to become an author, a radio presenter, a columnist, an award-winning national and international journalist…and an official blogger, (large L plates attached), all that while peeling spuds, wearing head-gear and smiling ever so sweetly. Meditation, Mandala art and moving to Inishowen, has helped too, along with my love for writing. Like breathing, I have to write. Even when I am not writing, I am writing. It’s a dreadful infliction, a complete life saviour, and a great excuse not to obsess over housework.

Mostly, I am passionate about inspiring and empowering others to live authentic and fulfilling lives. From one being to another, may my words speak to your soul and encourage you to fly.

Love from Ailialana

I can say that i have never seen/heard of a more positive person then you 🙂 I am a follower of this filosophy that one must always be positive and look from the brighter side of the world (well …. not too bright i hope, because then its a problem reality-illusion).
    Keep the shiny attitude.
    All the best,
    Emil

  8. Hi, Aileen,

I just wanted to thank you for your recent long visit on my blog pages. I loved the flurry of comments just when I was sort of fading out of blog mode. I didn’t realize you did personal and professional development at some point… boy, I could really use that!!! I want so much for my life to be more about writing than anything else, but don’t see a way there. But to fall back on being that boring computer person again… ughh, just the thought of it. I keep waiting for the sign (from above, or somewhere out there) but I’m not seeing that path illuminated yet. I wish, too, that I didn’t live in a country so huge, that standing out in any way is a near impossibility. You can barely get a job bagging groceries these days, much less something that actual benefits your own personal goals. Again, ughh.

In the meantime, thanks for being such a positive influence out there. May God continue to bless you and gift you with wonderful surprises like those that come from your precious children.
